Harriers' Cross Country Run

Homecroft held a 71/2 mile handicap on Saturday last from Headquarters, Manor-road, Liscard. T. J. Brookes figured on scratch and the starts ran out to 6 minutes.

Upon entering the country at the Wallasey Marshes the troubles began; more than one runner getting up to the neck in water. At the half distance the scratch man headed the field; nothing seemed to trouble him, mud, water and plough were all alike to him and he, closely followed by Thomas (2 minutes start) got a lead of a quarter of a mile from the rest of the field but at the Leasowe Golf Links, Brookes troubles began for a sprain contracted when running a week before again came on with the result that one leg became practically a passenger for the rest of the journey. The running was now taken up by E. Jones ( Richmond Harriers) Barley, and Thomas with Brookes in attendance and thin was the order until the last half mile when Barley forged to the front and won a good race by 60 yards. The placings were as follows:-
