Road Race Win is Hill's Celebration

Twenty-three to-day, Manchester University textile student Ron Hill celebrated on Saturday by winning the Chris Vose Trophy seven-mile road race at Warrington.

The only real challenge to Hill came from Brian Woolford (Wallasey), who cut out much of the pace with Hill hanging in a challenging position. Then, with 600 yards to go, the long-striding student moved ahead for a convincing and clever win.

Formerly a member of Clayton-le-Moors Harriers, Hill had double reason for wanting to win because Saturday marked the expiration of the 12 months waiting period before he could compete as a full member of his new club, Bolton United. Consolation to second man Woolford came in the team race in which Wallasey were clear winners from Leigh.
